The building of the Great Moravia Memorial was constructed above the foundations of a cemetery church discovered in 1949 by archaeologist Vilém Hrubý. These remains represent the earliest known architecture from the Great Moravian period on Czech territory. They now form the central part of the exhibition Great Moravia, which guides visitors through significant moments in the history of the Great Moravian Empire and life in a Slavic hillfort. You can view replicas of period clothing, footwear, rare jewellery, tools, and other finds from archaeological excavations.
In 2022, a new modern extension – the Cyril and Methodius Centre – was added. Here you can visit the multimedia exhibition The Story of Constantine and Methodius, presenting the lives of the two brothers who played a key role in the beginnings of Slavic literacy.Exhibition Prehistory of the Uherské Hradiště Region, takes you even deeper into the past via a dark tactile pathway, leading through the time of mammoth hunters, early farmers, and metalworkers. In the unique steel exhibition space, you can admire original archaeological finds collected by generations of local archaeologists.
